I work in the Public Health, Place & Communities team with two other people.
Our role is to support and enable Telford’s communities to do more around improving our residents’ health & wellbeing.
Each of us works in specific areas of the borough, providing a local contact for improving health & wellbeing.
I focus on encouraging communities to get active, my colleagues John Cocker and Mandy Sznober encourages communities to be be creative and eat well.
Volunteers play a crucial role in allowing us to support the needs of the community’s health and wellbeing.
We know that Volunteers working within the community help to engage local people in ongoing activity, building closer relationship between services and communities.
For that reason we are always looking to work with volunteers at every opportunity.
As a team we normally act as the middle person between the volunteer and the organisation delivering the activity serving the community.
So in our role we work with:
- Local organisations to help find potential volunteers.
- Future volunteers to help them find suitable placements.
- Both the organisation and volunteers to upskill them so that they meet the needs of the community.
Volunteers are invaluable to us. They help us to tackle health inequalities and promote health in harder to reach groups across Telford and Wrekin.
