Telford discovers a love for netball

We’ve had a great response with firms from all over Telford joining in.

Lot’s of new people have got involved, some who haven’t played before. They are now fitter and have discovered what a great game netball is.

We have a good atmosphere on court and it’s means players can meet new people outside of their place of work.

I’m really looking forward to announcing the winners.

Workplaces from around the borough have submitted teams including Coalbrookdale School, the Haygate Hawks from Haygate Veterinary Practice, The Kites from Lawley Village Academy, Peaky Guiders made up of staff from Guide Dogs UK, Redhill of Redhill Primary Academy, Shifnal 7 of FH Property Ltd, T2 and the Terminators from Back to Netball, the HLC Mad Hatters from HLC Secondary, Windmill Warriors from Windmill Primary School and Wrekin Housing Trust.

After the England netball team won the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal, netball has really come to the forefront as a fast-paced for everyone at any level.

You don’t have to be super fit to get the benefits, at an amateur level it’s very much about meeting with friends each week and working together to keep fit and most importantly having fun.

It’s also about helping people discover a love for being active and finding something that suits them – this is at the heart of Let’s Get Telford Active.

If you missed the closing date for the netball league, there are still plenty of opportunities to play. On Monday’s the Telford Langley Leisure Centre hosts Back to Netball 6-7pm and Walking Netball from 7-8pm. Oakengates Leisure Centre also hosts walking netball on Thursday’s between 10:30-11:30am.

Let’s Get Telford Active

This event has been funded by a grant from Telford & Wrekin Council as part of it’s campaign – Let’s Get Telford Acitve.

The pot of £50,000 aims to encourage community-led activities, creating more chances for people to have a go at different activities and find something they love.
