Schools Health & Wellbeing webinar series 2025/2026

This academic year we are bringing you a programme of webinars to upskill your knowledge on a range of health and wellbeing topics.

The sessions will be run by a combination of Telford & Wrekin Council departments and our external partners to ensure you are getting high quality, expert learning opportunities. Each session will have the opportunity for questions. You will also receive information for relevant resources and support as part of each session.

The webinar series is FREE to all school teachers, education providers and those who homeschool within Telford and Wrekin.

Each session will run twice, giving you the option of a lunchtime or after school session to suit individual timetables and needs.

The EatWell plateThis session will upskill your knowledge of the Eatwell plate to support your delivery of these topics within the curriculum and signpost you to resources.

NCMP overview and the school nurse offerFind out what the NCMP programme is, how is helps shape the health and wellbeing offer to schools and how schools play a vital role in this statutory programme. Additionally, the school nurses will provide an overview of their offer so you can understand where they can support your school.

Sugar awarenessThis session will upskill your knowledge of sugar and its prevalence in everyday items.

Active breaks and active learningResearch shows that giving children the opportunity to have active breaks and take part in active learning can improve retention and attainment. This session will highlight some key tried and tested methods to support you to embed these into your classroom.

Talking to children and families about body image and weightHow to talk to children, young people and families when weight and body image arise.

Tips on setting up an afterschool cooking clubAfterschool cooking clubs are a great way to expand opportunities for your pupils to learn key cooking skills. This session will cover key tips for setting up a club, recipes you can use and funding opportunities that may be available to you.

Supporting the physical activity levels of all pupilsPupils should be doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day within school. This session will highlight key opportunities for you to increase physical activity amongst all pupils but especially the least active including break and lunchtimes and afterschool clubs.

Delivering cooking sessions in curriculum timeAs part of the national curriculum it is expected that you give pupils the opportunity to prepare and cook (savoury) dishes. This session will outline some key tips and recipe options that you could use in your lessons.

Lunchboxes, portion sizes and food policiesLunchboxes and food policies are a common concern for schools. This session will cover resources we have available for these topics, insights we have as well as upskill your confidence in rolling these out at your school.

Case studies from schools and signposting opportunities over the summerTo celebrate the end of the year we will invite schools to showcase case studies of health and wellbeing initiatives they have successfully implemented into their school. As well as this, as we head towards the summer holidays we will signpost you to lots of information for you to signpost your pupils and families to.
